Leak testing is one of the most common and important methods of detection of through-and-through defects in vessels, enclosures and welds.
Since the concept of tightness is the main operational requirement for many products, leak testing of equipment is an important and responsible process. Particularly high deamnds are placed on products operating in a vacuum and under high pressure conditions. Leak testing of the product allows to judge its quality. A leak area is determined following the results of testing, which will allow to perform repair works.
The vacuum-bubble testing method allows to detect penetraion defects. When testing by this method, a vacuum chamber is installed on the side of the test section of the welded joint moistened with indicator solution, and negative pressure is generated in a chamber. Due to the generated differential pressure, atmospheric air penetrates through-and-through defects, causing their bubble indication.
One of the methods of non-destructive testing, which allows to find surface defects: cracks, cavities, lack of penetration, pores and other discontinuities of the surface and the heat-affected zone.
